Meet Our Founder
The start of a charitable endeavor.
During the course of 2010-2011 the idea of North American Hunters for Heroes/Texas Hunters for Heroes came to being. Time was working in San Antonio near the base and where many soldiers wounded in the Middle East were getting treatment and rehabilitation. We were at our deer lease in San Saba, TX sitting around the fire one night, Tim hatched the idea of forming a charity. He wanted to share the experiences we had at the lease and create healing through hunting. The idea grew, we applied for a 501(c)(3) and did all the legal work to become a charity. With the help from many volunteers in San Saba, and through word of mouth, we began to hold fundraisers anywhere we could. Wanting to make sure that not only would their food and lodging be paid for but that if we were hunting and they got a deer, dove, or a pig the THH would finance the processing and get the meat back to them. It was a common complaint he heard from veterans that they would be invited to hunts, but if they tagged any game they were responsible for processing and getting the meat themselves.
It was agreed that our groups would be small, giving time and attention in a personal, concentrated way, and making sure the person or family invited felt safe and well cared for. After a couple hunts, we branched out to fishing and held an annual fundraiser at Cedar Creek Lake, then later in the summer had a fishing trip with the weekend paid for through donations.
At the center of all Tim’s plans was a call to service. In the USMC as a Gunny Sergeant, his job entailed caring for troops, filling in the gaps for supplies, and bringing strangers together for the betterment of the squadron. That sense of service carried forward to THH and taking care of troops in another way. As years progressed, there were chapters in Louisiana and Mississippi, and throughout Texas. Other changes took place changing THH into Support Operations Services (S.O.S.) where Tim continued his mission and carried it until it was time to pass it down to his son.
OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
John weiland
My name is John Weiland, and I have the honor of serving as the President of SOS, an organization founded by my father and entrusted to me in 2025. I proudly served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps as an Aviation Ordnance Technician. Following my military service, I transitioned into education, teaching within Crowley ISD. It was during my time as an educator that I became actively involved with SOS—initially by guiding hunts, organizing fishing trips for veterans and first responders, and offering support through conversation and companionship. Today, I work at NAS JRB Fort Worth as a Depot-Level Ground Support Technician, continuing my commitment to service by supporting both the Navy and Marine Corps. With the unwavering support of our board members and the brave men and women we serve, I am dedicated to advancing our mission of promoting the mental well-being of veterans and first responders—those who have selflessly protected the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. And as always, Semper Fidelis.
Marisa Tipton-Allen
Vice President
My name is Marisa Tipton-Allen, and I am grateful to be the Vice President of SOS. My initial experience with SOS was as a volunteer for the annual hog hunt event in Ennis, Texas. Let me tell you, it hooked me. Seeing the examples and proof of efforts put forth on behalf of our warriors. As a Navy Airframer, the need to take care of our own runs deep within me, and the number of brothers and sisters that get lost when they are home is staggering. I have always known I wanted to find a way to help reduce the chasm between each of us, and we can't wait to do that here at SOS one day at a time.
Matt Allen
Treasurer
My name is Matt Allen, and as a former Deputy Sheriff, I have witnessed firsthand the areas within our communities that are in need of greater support, especially when it comes to our nation's warriors. Many simply need a space to reconnect, whether through group therapy sessions or shared time at the range with fellow veterans and first responders. At SOS, we are actively seeking opportunities to expand our reach and deepen our impact. I have never encountered an organization quite like this one, and I am truly honored to serve as Treasurer. It is a privilege to be part of a mission dedicated to supporting the brave men and women who have selflessly protected our safety and freedom. I look forward to continuing this important work, helping every warrior we can.
